The 2024 Eclipse

The 2024 Eclipse

Today was the solar eclipse. Chicago, and nearby Evanston, were not in the path of totality however they did receive 94% coverage. Cian stepped out briefly to photograph the sky ahead of the eclipse.

The 2024 solar eclipse, photographed in the Chicago area. About half of the sun is obscured by the moon as an orange glow emanates against the dark backdrop.

It was ... well it was a little difficult! Cian had to use his eclipse glasses and press them over his camera's lens to actually show the moon starting to eclipse the sun. It impacted his camera's ability to focus and created a lot of smudging around the edges too (this isn't really surprising). Here's the resulting photo.

White balance was set to daylight, ISO set to 100, f8.0. Cropped and edited in Lightroom.
